About Plate

When David Mantelmacher decided to open his dream restaurant, he envisioned a place that served fine dining style food in a casual setting. He wanted it to be chic and stylish, yet affordable and unpretentious. He discovered the perfect location in Ardmore’s Suburban Square. Today, his New American menu showcases seasonal and signature items that have kept regulars returning since 2003.

Entrees, priced $19 and below, include Rocky Mountain potato wrapped trout, sesame-crusted tuna, Rigatoni Calabria, and Carribean skirt steak. Our appetizers include Malaysian glazed chicken wings, crisp calamari made with a rice crispy crust, cast-iron baked vegetable gratinata,  and smoked duck tostadas. Plate also offers a kids menu featuring childhood favorites like macaroni and cheese, panko crusted chicken fingers and petite filet mignon. The dessert menu delights diners with playful items like our artist’s pallet of homemade ice cream in miniature ice cream cones.

Centered around a horseshoe-shaped bar made by local artisan Bolla Design, Plate's bar accommodates more than 50 people and offers an array of creative cocktails and six draft beers. Enjoy our 42 inch plasma screen television and our “20 under $30” (under $30 per bottle) wine list.

Executive Chef Scott Aaron creates New American dishes that change with the season to accompany signature dishes that have been on the menu since the restaurant’s opening in 2003.

Pastry Chef Angela Tustin whips up whimsical, modern renditions of heart-warming favorites. Chef Tustin's talent was nurtured in some of Philadelphia's most renowned pastry shops, including The Fountain at The Four Seasons Philadelphia and Le Bec Fin. But her passion for sweets was born behind the counter of a Dunkin’ Donuts where she worked as a kid making donuts, dipping them in icing and drizzling them with sprinkles. A graduate of The Restaurant School at Walnut Hill College, Chef Tustin is the recipient of numerous awards. In 2004 Star Chefs named her Rising Star Pastry Chef and in 2005 her vegetable ice creams won her a Best of Philly. She guest starred on The Food Network's Unwrapped and appeared on local Philadelphia broadcasts.
